Press Release – Renewed Support for Move for Hunger

Renewed Support for Move for Hunger Program

Northwest Moving Company Continues to Fight Hunger Nationwide

OLYMPIA, WA – Olympic Moving and Storage/Bekins Northwest and Move For Hunger are proud to announce their continued partnership to fight hunger and provide much-needed support to food pantries in Washington and across the United States. As a proud partner of the national hunger-relief organization for the past year, Olympic Moving and Storage/Bekins Northwest supports Move For Hunger’s efforts to reduce food waste and fight hunger; to date, the non-profit’s network of relocation professionals has collected and delivered more than 7 million pounds of food – providing more than 6 million meals – to food banks and pantries across the United States and Canada.

When people move, they often throw out a good deal of “stuff.”  Unfortunately, much of this stuff is food that could be delivered to a family in need rather than just left behind.Olympic Moving and Storage/Bekins Northwest’s ten locations in Washington collect those food items from their customers and deliver them directly to the local community food bank. The service is free to customers and turns every move into an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate, simply by donating the cans and non-perishables on moving day. In addition to collecting food, Olympic Moving and Storage/Bekins Northwest will proudly be displaying Move For Hunger’s logo on all of their trucks to help raise awareness about hunger in the state.

“More than 970,000 people in Washington are food insecure – meaning they do not have reliable access to a sufficient supply of affordable, nutritious food. One in four children in the state are unsure of when they will have their next meal,” explains Adam Lowy, Executive Director and Founder of Move For Hunger. “With the support of companies like Olympic Moving and Storage/Bekins Northwest, we can continue to reduce food waste and fight hunger nationwide.”

“Olympic Moving & Storage/Bekins Northwest is proud to announce our continued sponsorship of Move for Hunger.  We’ve been an advocate and supporter of the program over the years,” says Rob Schmidt, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.  “Their commitment to community service and charitable efforts aligns closely with our core values.”

With one in seven Americans affected by food insecurity, including over 15 million children, it has never been more important to come together to help our neighbors in need. Through the support of partners like Olympic Moving and Storage/Bekins Northwest, Move For Hunger can continue to help the nearly 50 million Americans struggling to find their next meal.
